CENTAGRO COMPOST

CENTAGRO is a High-Quality Compost made from natural waste streams from local Marlborough meat and timber industries.

We seek to reduce landfill dependence for local companies and create high-quality compost and spreading solutions for local vineyard owners - YOU.

Our soil improvement solution is locally owned and developed with 20 years of industry experience for you to benefit from. We can sort everything from start to finish; soil tests, product, transport, spreading & loaders to create a highly beneficial, hassle-free solution.

Improve soil production and longevity by giving back to the soil with our nutritious CENTAGRO compost. Typically soils in Marlborough have low and decreasing organic matter levels so…

Improve your Soil Organic Matter Levels!

Why?

Soil organic matter is a nutrient holder which means instead of leaching or becoming unavailable, nutrients are stored and eventually mineralize for plant availability.

Organic matter can hold up to 90% of its own weight in moisture, acting like a sponge and improving soil moisture-holding capacity which ensures you get full return on irrigation costs.

Soil structure improves as organic matter levels increase by forming soil aggregates. Soil pore improvements mean better water permeability and improved compaction resistance from aeration.

Erosion decreases as improved soil structure aggregates and water permeability stabilize soil. Wind and water runoff are huge factors in topsoil loss on Marlborough Vineyards. This loss cannot be replaced quickly as topsoil development takes many years.

Soil fertility improves as organic matter levels increase, more organic matter equals more Cation Exchange Sites, which in turn improves soil CEC capacity. This means more nutrients mineralize and become plant available rather than being bound in soil or leaching. Return on fertilizer spreading investment improves significantly.

Organic matter also acts as a sink and source for soil carbon.

Worm activity increases thus improving nutrient cycling and soil structure. Soil biodiversity and activity of beneficial soil organisms increases. This can reduce the risk of pathogen growth and may also increase vine resistance to diseases.

CENTAGRO also acts as a weed suppressor as it breaks down over 2 - 3 years into the soil.

N,P,K and S are available in CENTAGRO compost in inorganic (immediately available) and organic (slow release) forms. Pair this with improved fertility and save on fertilizer costs. For example CENTAGRO contains at least 2kg of Phosphorus per tonne, applied at 60 tonne per hectare = (2kg x 60) 130kg/ ha of phosphorus applied. Check spec sheet for more detail.

Does this improve my bottom line? YES - Faster return on the significant capital investment required to develop vineyards can be achieved when compost is spread around young plants. If your crop could produce a year earlier than normal developments, your bottom line will benefit. In established vineyards, return on investment into fertilizer, pesticides, water and irrigation will improve as less inputs will be required due to better soil health, further lowering your costs.
